Uttar Pradesh SHOCKER: In absence of anesthetist, doctors perform normal delivery instead of C-section, newborn dies

A newborn's death at a hospital in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, has sparked outrage after doctors performed a normal delivery instead of a cesarean section due to the unavailability of an anesthetist.

The baby's father, Rajiv Kumar Maurya, said that he admitted his wife to Kashiram Maya Raj Hospital after she went into labour.

He said that a cesarean procedure was advised for the delivery, but since the anaesthetist was unavailable, he was informed that arrangements were being made. When he decided to shift his wife to another hospital, the doctor assured him that a normal delivery would be safe.

Tragically, the baby did not survive the delivery, leading to chaos at the hospital. The family accused the doctors of negligence, alleging that the absence of the anesthetist and the decision to perform a normal delivery instead of the advised cesarean resulted in the baby's death.

The district administration took swift action, forming a two-member inquiry panel to probe the hospital's role in the tragedy. The state women's commission has also intervened, directing that an autopsy of the newborn be conducted on camera by government medical officers to ensure transparency in the investigation.
