With the everyday increase in the prices of petrol and diesel, electric vehicles have emerged feasible option before mango man. Along with the central government, state governments are also announcing subsidies on electric vehicles to promote the sale.
Similarly, the Gujarat government has announced its Electric Vehicle Policy. The state government has announced a subsidy of up to Rs 1.50 lakh on the purchase of electric vehicles. This subsidy will be directly transferred to the accounts of the customers through DBT. This policy will be applicable for the next 4 years. In this policy, the government has also announced a subsidy for 250 new charging infrastructure. There are 278 charging stations in Gujarat.
If a person buy an electric car or bike in Gujarat, then he/she will not have to shell out the registration fee for an electric vehicle in Gujarat. The state government will grant double subsidy per KW as compared to any other state. The state government will not only encourage the purchaser of the electric vehicle by giving subsidy but also the other benefits under the FAME-2 policy of the central government.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had announced this policy on 22 June. The CM stated "There will be a subsidy of Rs 1.50 lakh on the purchase of an electric four-wheeler, Rs 20,000 on an electric two-wheeler and Rs 50,000 on the purchase of a three-wheeler. This subsidy will be directly transferred to the bank account through DBT. According to the government, this policy will help us in reducing the emission of 6 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide."
The Chief Minister said that 75,000 rickshaws and 25000 electric cars would run in the first phase of the policy. Gujarat will also work towards the production of electric vehicles. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers will mostly focus on scooters, bikes, rickshaws and automobiles. He said that investors and startups will be encouraged in the field of electric mobility.
