Threat to Sanjay, Deepika shameful: Shahid Kapoor
, Tuesday, 21 November 2017 (13:19 IST)
Panaji: Actor Shahid Kapoor on Monday said the threat to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone was shameful and the controversy regarding film 'Padmavati' was uncalled for.

Speaking on the sidelines of inauguration of 48th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), he said, 'Threat to Sanjay Leela and Deepika is shameful. Any kind of conversation which is violent in nature is not very nice, is not in good taste and it is absolutely uncalled for an unfortunate.'When asked about his message to his fans over the film, the actor said,'Well my message to my fans is wait for Padmavati. It will be a film that I am sure will live up to your expectations...'

Shahid said he believed in the process of certification and he was confident that eventually 'Padmavati' would come out.'I believe in the process of certification and I am very confident that eventually 'Padmavati' will come out and it will come out in full force and I don't think there is anything in the film that is you know unacceptable or that is not in good taste. I think our Constitution says you are innocent until proven guilty. So I think the same should be extended to Padmavati,' he said.

He said the film was made for the people of the country and the people of the country should see the film and decide what they felt about the film. 'I am sure some solution will happen soon. The process of certification has started. The film has been submitted, all the paper works are through. It will be a precedent which I am not proud of if the film finds it difficult to release. I believe that the film will release.

I believe that this process is difficult and like I said, I went through a similar process with 'Udta Punjab'. I eventually saw the film come out and I eventually saw the film loved and celebrated. So till I am disappointed, I will choose to be optimistic, because this has happened in the past. And I did see 'Udta Punjab' released. It was released all over the country. It released peacefully and it was seen by everybody,' he said.

'Padmavati' has run into rough weather over protest over it. The producers of the film have been forced to postpone date of its release. (UNI)
