New Delhi. Film actress turned Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan has shocked everyone amid reports of her divorce from hubby. Nusrat stated that she does not need to get a divorce. The actress married Bodrum, Turkey-based businessman Nikhil Jain in 2019, just after winning the Lok Sabha elections from the Bashirahat seat.
Issuing a statement on her separation from her husband, Trinamool MP Nusrat on Wednesday said she does not need to seek divorce as her marriage with Nikhil Jain was never valid under Indian law.

Nusrat said that since it was an inter-religious marriage on foreign land as per the Turkish Marriage Regulation, it stands invalid under the Special Marriage Act in India. She said that as per the law it can't be defined as marriage, but a relationship or a live-in relationship. So the question of divorce does not arise.

She also added that for a long time both are separated, but I was mum on this issue as I do not wish to make my personal life public. Our marriage is not valid at all in the eyes of law. (WD)
