New Delhi: Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, who was killed in Kandahar clashes, will be laid to rest in the graveyard of his university Jamila Milia Islamia here, the university said on Sunday.

"Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice-Chancellor accepted the request of the family of late photojournalist Danish Siddiqui to bury his body at the JMI graveyard meant exclusively for university employees, their spouses and minor child," the university said in the statement.

Siddiqui (39), a photojournalist with news agency Reuters, was killed on Thursday night in the town of Spin Boldak of Kandahar in Afghanistan while covering the clashes between the Afghan security forces and Taliban.

Siddiqui, who had won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize, had a long association with the university. After completing his schooling at Jamia school in the university campus, he did graduation in economics and masters in mass communication from the Jamia Milia Islamia.

His father, Mohammad Akhtar Siddiqui, is a former professor of the university.

On Saturday, the university's Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar had visited the family of the slain journalist to offer condolences. She said the university will conduct a photo exhibition on Tuesday to display the finest work of Siddiqui.

The university had described Siddiqui as a photojournalist for those who could not speak for themselves.

Reuters republished Siddiqui's finest work on its website on Friday with a title-"I shoot for the common man".

The journalist is survived by wife and two children. (UNI)
