Chandauli: A station house officer at a police station in the eastern Uttar Pradesh district here was suspended after daughter of a history-sheeter, whose house was being searched was found dead allegedly after police thrashing.
SP Ankur Aggarwal on Monday said a probe has been initiated as the cause of death remains unknown.
A team from Saiyadraja police station led by Uday Pratap Singh raided at gangster Kanhaiya Yadav's house here on Sunday. "Police reached suspect Kanhaiya Yadav's house but he wasn't found. Probe is underway and prima facie the girl could have committed suicide but we're awaiting post-mortem report," the SP said.
There was a violent protest in Manrajpur village after 21-year-old girl Nisha Yadav's death.
Locals alleged that Nisha, daughter of gangster Kanhaiya Yadav, was found dead in her house. They alleged she was thrashed by the SHO of Saiyyedraja after which she died. Her sister too, suffered injuries as she allegedly tried to kill herself by cutting her veins.
DM Sanjeev Singh said Uday Pratap Singh has been suspended and process of lodge an FIR was underway. (UNI)
